Front Axles



24 Spline - Stage 1

Designed as a direct bolt in replacement, these components are a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of both the inner axle shaft and the CV joint.

There are several ways that the durability is increased as follows:

• The diameter of the inner axle shaft at the CV joint is increased from .885" (32 spline) to 1.20" (27 spline)
• Both components use an upgraded material. We use 4340 Chrome-moly steel.
• CV joints are thru hardened to a lower level instead of case hardened. This lower heat treat level increases the shock resistance of the CV joint, the major cause of catastrophic failure with stock CV joints.

In destructive testing the failure point of this kit is approximately 9000 ft/lbs. This compares to 3000 ft/lbs for the stock components. The failure point in this destructive testing is the inner axle shaft. If you want additional durability upgrade to our Stage 2 kit.

Kits fit most models of Defender 90, 110, 130, Discovery 1 & Range Rover Classic. Inquire for specifics. If the vehicle was originally equipped with ABS, we recommend using our ABS version of this kit because it is a violation of Federal law to knowingly disable a safety feature on a vehicle such as ABS. 24 Spline - Stage 2

Designed as a direct bolt in replacement, these components are a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of both the inner axle shaft and the CV joint.

There are several ways that the durability is increased as follows:

• The diameter of the inner axle shaft at the CV joint is increased from .885" (32 spline) to 1.20" (23 spline)
• Both components use an upgraded material. We use 4340 Chrome-moly steel for the CV joint and an induction heat treated inner axle.
• CV joints are thru hardened to a lower level instead of being case hardened. This lower heat treat level increases the shock resistance of the CV joint, the major cause of catastrophic failure with stock CV joints.

In destructive testing the failure point of this kit is approximately 10,000 ft/lbs. This compares to 3000 ft/lbs for the stock components. The failure point in this destructive testing is the internal components of the CV joint. The major difference between this Stage Two kit and our Stage One kit is the strength of the inner axle shafts. This kit has upgraded inner axles. The CV joint is also upgraded from the Stage One version.

Kits fit most Defender 90, 110, 130, Discovery 1 & Range Rover Classic. Please inquire for specifics. If the vehicle was originally equipped with ABS, we recommend using this kit because it is a violation of Federal law to knowingly disable a safety feature on a vehicle such as ABS. There is no loss of durability in maintaining the ABS tone ring. This is because the failure point is the internal components of the CV joint not the outer race where the CV tone ring is located. Discovery II Heavy Duty | Part Number GBR2424D2K

Designed as a direct bolt in replacement for the Discovery 2, these components are a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of both the inner axle shaft and the CV joint. There are several ways that the durability is increased as follows:

• The diameter of the inner axle shaft at the CV joint is increased from .885" (32 spline) to 1.24" (24 spline).

• Both components use an upgraded material. We use 4340 Chrome-moly steel for both the CV joint and inner axle shaft.

• Components are thru hardened to a lower level instead of being case hardened. This lower heat treat level increases the shock resistance of the CV joint, the major cause of failure with stock CV joints is shock loading commonly incurred in aggressive recreational off roading.

In destructive testing the failure point of this kit is approximately 10,000 ft/lbs. This compares to 3000 ft/lbs for the stock components.

Kit fits all Discovery 2's. Kit does not affect the operation of ABS brakes, Electronic Traction Control or Hill Decent Control because the tone ring for these functions is located in the hub and not on the CV joint. Assembly procedure is modified, please contact us for more information.

GBR 2522 Stage 2

Designed as an upgraded replacement for Land Rovers that originally came equipped with the AEU 2522 or the RTC686232 spline CV joints. These include Defender 110's and 130's thru 1995. It was also commonly found on military Defender 90's thru 1995 and was also retrofitted many Rovers as an upgraded component because it can be adapted to vehicles originally equipped with later or different CV joints. Some modification is required such as upgrading the differential to 24 spline and possibly drive flanges. These components are a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of both the inner axle shaft and the CV joint. There are several ways that the durability is increased as follows:

• The diameter of the inner axle shaft at the differential is increased from .997" (10 spline) to 1.20" (23 spline). The diameter of the CV joint splines is also increased for applications that came with the RTC6862 .885"/32 spline CV joint (post 1988).

• Both components use an upgraded material. We use 4340 Chrome-moly steel for the CV joint and inner axle.

• Components are thru hardened to a lower level instead of case hardened. This lower heat treat level increases the shock resistance of the CV joint, the major cause of failure with stock CV joints.

In destructive testing the failure point of this kit is approximately 10,000 ft/lbs. This compares to 3000 ft/lbs for the stock components. The failure point in this destructive testing is the internal components of the CV joint. This kit is only offered as a Stage Two kit.

Kit fits Defender 90, 110, 130, Discovery 1 & other Rovers modified to use the 2522 CV joint. Although this CV joint was never offered on an ABS equipped vehicle many of these were retrofitted to ABS equipped vehicles. We offer this CV joint with and without an ABS tone ring. If the vehicle was originally equipped with ABS, we recommend using our ABS version of this kit because it is a violation of Federal law to knowingly disable a safety feature on a vehicle such as ABS. There is no loss of durability in doing so because the failure point is the internal components of the CV joint not the outer race where the CV tone is located. Rear Axles

Heavy Duty 24 spline - Stage 1

Designed as either a direct bolt in replacement for existing 24 spline applications or as an upgrade from earlier 10 spline applications. This axle kit is fully compatable with stock alloy wheels. It is a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of the rear axle shafts. Features of these shafts are as follows:

• These shafts utilize a true "waisted" design. This specific waisted design is proprietary to us, utilizing extensive in house research and development. Waisting is also on the flange end of the shaft, so in the advent of breakage, field repairs are much less time consuming.

• Rolled spines - rolling splines cold forges them resulting in an increase in durability in the range of 30 to 35%. We are the only manufacturer suppling this feature for upgraded Land Rover axle shafts

• These shafts use an upgraded alloy steel. We use 1541H steel. This steel is superior to either stock axles that are made from a commercial grade case hardening steel. Shafts are induction hardened to a higher lever than stock shafts or competing HD aftermarket shafts, significantly increasing their tensile strength and durability.

Kit includes two axle shafts with two separate drive flanges. In applications that originally were designed to run a "dry hub" we have eliminated the sealing surface of the shaft and have included two upgraded wet hub seals. These axle kits are a very high quality but designed for the customer that wants good value for the money. This kit is superior to similar axle kits on the market. Heavy Duty 24 spline - Stage 2

Designed as an upgrade for either stock 10 & 24 spline applications or our Stage One & Two 24 spline rear axle kit. This axle kit is fully compatable with stock alloy wheels. It is a heavy duty upgrade that substantially increases the durability of the rear axle shafts.

Similar to our stage 1 kit with the following changes:

1) True one piece design. This eliminates any chance of drive flange spline wear because the drive flange in integral with the shaft, hence there are no splines.

2) Upgraded to induction hardened Chrome-moly steel, there is an increase in durability compared to our Stage One shafts. Shafts are induction hardened to Rockwell C 55.

Additional features of these shafts:

Custom Salisbury Axle Assemblies

We have been threatening it for years and finally decided to go ahead and do it — build the biggest, badest & beefiest axle assemblies possible for a Land Rover — custom Salisburys!

We feel that a Rover differential can be built into a very durable unit. We have pioneered the development of worlds best Rover extreme duty differential components. But we realize that some enthusiasts want something even more durable. There has been some experimentation in the community with Toyota differentials but in reality a Toyota is merely a lateral move in terms of durability. In other words, at best they are only as durable as a properly built Rover differential and that is being generous. So if you desire to swap out a Rover differential for something better, you might as well make a very tangible leap and get something dramatically better. Hence we proudly offer the following axle housings.

First some history, in the late 1960’s Land Rover introduced the famous Salisbury rear axle assembly for their long wheel base models. These continued thru 2001 and were sadly discontinued at that time. Sad because these were the most durable axle assemblies ever produced by Land Rover. They were also available in the front for specialist military applications and they were also standard equipment of the 101 Forward Control.

A Salisbury axle assembly is a derivative of an American Dana 60. There are some minor differences but the one thing they share in common is they are both renowned for extreme durability. Dana 60’s are the most common differential application for extreme competition off road vehicles in the USA.

We did some substantial research of the various suppliers of axle housings. After this research, we concluded that the highest quality axle cases are produced by Rockcrusher Differentials. We were very impressed by their experience and commitment to quality. We have partnered with them to produce these axle housings to our specifications.

Some features that make a Rockcrusher axle case a superior product:
1) Oiling
2) Pinion angle
3) Material - Ductile Iron

We designed the axle housing with a high pinion design and we adjusted the pinion angle geometry to allow the use of a simpler and more durable driveshaft design. These are supplied with the kit. A new tie rod is also included because the location needs to be modified.

The rear is high pinion as well. The high pinion version allows the use of a simpler and more durable single cardon driveshaft.

We designed these as a complete bolt in kit using as many of your original parts as possible. We supply them only as complete assembled units direct from our own in house remanufacturing facility. The axle case comes with all brackets including, spring plates, suspension mounting points, end flanges and even the sway bar brackets. These brackets are not just duplicates of the original but rather much heavier gauge material designed to hold up to the most extreme conditions imaginable.

We provide the carrier of your choice be it ARB’s, Detroit’s, Eaton’s — you name it we can provide it.

Ring and pinion gears in whatever ratio you prefer, anything from a stock 3.54 to 7.17 and everything in between. Assembled using genuine Timkin bearings.

Included are axle shafts and CV joints of our own design — a full 1.5”/35 spline for the rear and a 1.315”/30 spline for the front.

New drive shafts are required and are supplied with this kit direct from our in house driveshaft manufacturing facility. Our high pinion design allows the use of single cardon shafts. These are simpler and more durable than double cardon designs.

Add your existing drive hubs and brake components and they are ready for anything you can throw at them!
